First contact with combat sports Jan first met with martial arts in elementary school, where he trained karate. But the real start of his career was the moment he joined FCL and started training French boxing. He competed in light contact. Soon he redirected himself to English boxing, where he felt more at home. He was mostly impressed by the approach and intensity in boxing trainings and sparring. Ever since then he has been committed to boxing.
FCL as his second home
Jan joined FCL following a friend’s tip, but he soon noticed the friendly atmosphere and high level of work, which convinced him that he had made the right choice. Ever since then, FCL has been his second home.

Jan as a trainer
He enjoys his role and believes that this is the key to good, effective training and eventually good results. He believes a healthy dose of motivation can get you far in sports, thus he strives to educate his students as clearly as he can and to adapt the training to their knowledge and skills. He is careful in the execution of the technique and in correcting the faults. “The training must include a good ratio of intensity and technique, this is the secret of success,” he told us. Therefore trainings are good if they are performed in a team spirit. The whole training should consist of a sensible series of technique, stamina building and sparring. Good communication between the trainer and his students is crucial, as they can give the trainer feedback.
Jan on prejudice
Martial arts have been meeting with negative attitudes for a long time now and boxing is no exeption. “Personally, I believe there is no aggression in boxing!” The trainings are controlled and intended for competitors as well as recreation students. Everything is carried out safely without any aggression. Jan thinks that anyone who considers boxing to be an aggressive and brawling sport, would change their minds after just a couple of lessons. Uninformed claims about uncontrolled fighting are completely off the point.
Women in boxing
Jan thinks the old notions of boxing being an exclusively male sport are today obsolete. He believes women can demonstrate a high level of motivation and can be equal to men in technical skill, stamina and motivation. The training approach is equal for all students, regardless of their sex.
Jan’s motto
He adheres to the “a sound mind in a healthy body” motto. Good physical shape leads to good spirits and a quality lifestyle, thus Jan believes everyone should take up a sport.
