Mišel Ožegovič

First contacts with martial arts

Mišel started his life in martial arts at the age of nine, when he first met with karate. This was due to his young curiosity combined with the love for Bruce Lee films, but he was also encouraged by his father. He found the martial arts universe a very nice place to be and thus he keeps up with it.

Today he cannot imagine life without combat sports več

He also likes other sports – he has trained various ball games - but his fascination with combat sports is too big to give them up. Through karate he found out about kickboxing and savate was the next logical step. As Mišel prefers dynamic fighting with a wide array of strikes, savate is right up his alley. The more he learned about it, the more attached to it he became and today savate and combat sports are an important part of his life. In his own words: ''I like doing combat sports, somehow it makes life more interesting. Besides I like to teach others and enjoy it very much. In a word, this means a lot to me and I can’t imagine functioning normally as a person if it weren’t for combat sports'' No wonder he feels strongly committed to FCL, where he first met savate: '' It’s as important to me as, for example, a car is to the next guy, which means very much. I can’t imagine not doing combat sports and savate, not working in FCL.

Mišel as an instructor

Training is an important part of his work in martial arts, as he likes to share his knowledge with others. Ever since he was a kid he enjoyed being the demonstrator in karate lessons (he helped the trainers demonstrate the technique), which helped him develop skills necessary for training. The members of the club know him as an open and communicative person, always eager to build personal friendly contacts with his students, while still maintaining order and discipline. He says that an approach combining fun with hard work is always the best.

Mišel on prejudice

He never could understand the prejudice about martial arts being violent and aggressive. The way he sees it, training martial arts is just like training any other sport, a good opportunity to relax and stay in shape while growing personally. He doesn’t agree that martial arts encourage aggression. When asked about women in martial answer, his answer was very picturesque: “Women and martial arts go together like cheese and jam. It seems odd at first sight, but in practice it is very efficient and nice.”

Future plans

Mišel wants to further improve his knowledge of combat sports and savate in order to be an even better trainer. He has gained important results in competitions, which makes him feel proud, but he claims to be a perfectionist and is never satisfied with being second or third. He believes that these results are the proof of his commitment to the sport.
